Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is an educational process for learning life skills  but many of the aspects are contained in other educational programming such as character education, restorative justice, peer mediation, bullying prevention, anger management, drug/alcohol prevention, violence prevention, school climate, ethical-decision making, harassment prevention, positive behavior supports.

SEL teaches mental skills that lead to understanding and managing emotion, setting positive realistic, building long-lasting relationships, show empathy for others, and problem-solve constructively and ethically.

The SEL Empowered Educator is a 3 Day In-Person Training Program with the overall goal of developing the Social and Emotional Competence of any Educationist including Techers, School Counsellors, Concerned Parents, Care Givers, etc.

Teaching is an EMOTIONAL PRACTICE, Emotions determine how student’s assimilate and Teachers constitute between 50-60 percent of the process of Building Student’s Emotional Intelligence.

The SEL Empowered Class program is focused directly on Student’s and the program is deployed by SEL Specialist weekly. It is an easy way to engage students with Social and Emotional learning Competencies .


– Year 1 to 5

– 1 hour per week

– Year 5 and above

– 90 minutes to 120 minutes per week


– Reduction in conduct problem such as bullying and aggression – Decrease in Emotional Distress such as Anxiety and Depression – Improvement in attitude about self and others – Improvement in academics

The SEL Empowered School is a consulting solution that takes a more holistic view of SEL deployment for a school. It could be a 6 months, 1 Year and 2 Years program designed to entrench Social and Emotional Learning into the school system. It involves Students, Management, Faculty /Staff and extends to Parents.

STAGE 1: Establish enabling support structure for long-term SEL Implementation with preliminary school climate check and preliminary awareness

STAGE 2: Increase engagement with key stakeholders for more in-depth aggregated SEL activities and introductory infusion into Curriculum

STAGE 3: Infuse SEL into the fabric of the school involving teachers, students, parents and fully into the curriculum.



SEL is best known for its implementation in schools from pre-school to grade 12. However, to be effective it must be housed in a safe and supportive school climate. There is not a national consensus about what school climate dimensions are essential to assess. Synthesizing past school climate research as well as NSCC’s research efforts, the National School Climate Council and NSCC suggest that there are four major areas that school climate assessment needs to include: Safety, Relationships, Teaching and Learning and the external environment.


Whether your title is professor, instructor, lecturer, adjunct or other, your responsibility to your students is to teach. Your students look to you for the wisdom you have gained from your research, your educational background or your practical experience and your overall intelligence. However, being an effective instructor does not solely depend on your intellectual quotient (IQ); it also depends on how well you can use your emotional intelligence (EI). From my experience teaching in higher education, I have observed that not every student learns through the same methods, is motivated in the same manner, or acts in the same way in a classroom (live or online). So, it seems apparent that recognizing differences in teaching and learning styles, as well as being able to connect with your students, is important to produce a beneficial outcome.

These are the skills, attitudes, and behaviors that parents, educators, and employers alike value. Students with these competencies do better in school, are more engaged, and are less likely to be involved in risky behaviors, as documented by a growing body of research.

Research reveals that the emotional centers of the brain are intricately woven with cognitive learning. When a student is immersed in distressing emotions, the centers for learning are hampered. It naturally follows that a student’s ability to listen, comprehend, and retain what a teacher or book conveys is then compromised. In short, there is a direct association between emotions and learning. Fortunately, social and emotional learning courses can both reduce emotional distress in children and boost academic success and well-being.

landmark review (pdf) of over 213 social and emotional learning interventions including over 270,034 kindergarten through high school students found that those students who receive SEL instruction not only had more positive attitudes about school, they also improved an average of 11 percent on standardized achievement tests compared to students who did not receive such instruction. source:
